WAVE-Test

There are numerous factors to consider when evaluating the accessibility of a website page Wave-testen. We chose to assess this by utilizing the Wave Evaluation Tool developed by WebAIM. This tool gives us feedback on areas of improvement, but keep in mind, it doesn't give the full picture of our site's accessibility.

Contrast:

According to the WAVE-test, our page passed without any contrast errors. This was one of the main aspects we focused on. We incorporated Oslomet’s colors, yellow, blue, and white. We had white text on blue elements and black text on yellow and white element, to enhance contrast and readability. While the WAVE test didn’t show any errors, we are aware that there is room for improvement. Regarding the readability of the buttons (Student life, cafeteria, tech and society). The white text on top of photos could have been more visible. We could for example reduced the opacity and darken the photo even more that we did.

Details:

There are a couple of photos where, alt text is not present. Alt text is important for accessibility but also for SEO. Having alt text enables screen readers to read information about the image so that a person with a lack of sight or visual impairment can know what the pictures contains (Moz, u.å).

Skipped heading level:

On the article “The student life” we get an error that a heading level is skipped, which means we have transitioned directly from an h1 to h3. Headings provide hierchical structure. Skipping heading level can lead to confusion for both the user and screen readers. Makes navigating through the content more difficult. Since this was a singular instance, we don’t think it will impact too much but we acknowledge that it is important.

Readability:

This page is also dynamic. Allowing users to zoom inn and out of the page while ensuring the text adapts accordingly. This gives the user flexibility to choose preferred font size, and this enhance readability.
